To see her, it hurt more than she ever thought it would.

After trying so desperately to imagine what that baby girl look like, Kate had now seen her with her own eyes...

"Ok I assumed that you wouldnt be back around Kellys today since you made me promise to stay out of your sight for the rest of the day... I explained that I do live here..."

Zander finally stopped his speech when he noticed she hadnt interrupted with one of her usual smart remarks.

"So youre ignoring me?" He said now noticing that she wouldnt even make eye contact with him much less acknowledge that he was talking to her

He sat down at the table in front of her and she looked up at him with tear stained eyes

"What happened? Are you ok?"

He looked sincerely concerned

"Just a weird day... and I didnt want to go back to my hotel... and I, I dont know of anywhere else to go but here..."

"Do you want to talk about it?"

She just looked at him

"Ok"

"No, I, I cant Zander"

"Look, Ill play the friend here. If you wanna talk, without specifics thats cool, but youre obviously upset"

Kate wiped the last tears that had built up in her eyes and then looked around incase of a familiar face

She became very serious

"What do you know about the Quartermanes?"

Zander leaned back in his chair from his concerned position

"I dont deal with the Quartermanes... what are you another long lost relative?"

"Me? No, no. I just, met a man today by the name of Ned Ashton and I know hes a Quartermane and..."

A little truth to her lie

"You would do best to stay away from him"

"Why"

Of course she was intrigued

"Neds a nice guy, hell hes probably one of the better Quartermanes but he... look he hurt someone that I really care about... she didnt deserve what he put her through. And though they have "worked" it out. He has forever put a bad taste in my mouth"

"What did he do?"

She blinked showing her now innocent eyes

"He is the father of a little girl that belongs to a friend... and, its a long story..."

Kate caught her self before seeming to be too intrigued

"The little girl was with him today..."

"That was her"

"Ok, note taken about Ned Ashton"

A silence went between them

"Kate?"

"Yeah"

"Why were you crying? Does it have something to do with Ned?"

"No, no... I just got caught up in a moment I was having. I was thinking of someone and well, I got a little emotional"

Again there was some truth to that lie

"You are very interested in the families in this town... the other day Nicolas Cassadine, today Ned Ashton, Whats your secret? Whats your deal? Why the intrigue?"

"Why are you so quick to think that Im this mysterious girl?"

"You reek of it"

"I can read Zander. A paper comes to my hotel room every morning and I read. It gets lonely alone..."

Would he buy it?

Ok... if youre not so mysterious then tell me something about you"

"Ive told you things about me" Kate said somewhat annoyed

"Sure, lets see. Youre came from London supposedly but you only have a slight accent so youre not a native... I know your name is Kate Ward, I think. You must have money because you snap your fingers and people jump... so thats obvious. And you seem to be a loner... and..."

"And what?"

Zander had her attention for his comment on why she was alone

"Why are you alone, here by yourself?"

"Can someone not come to town alone? Did you bring your posse..."

"Look I didnt mean to get into this with you again. If you want to tell me more, then you will. I wont pressure you anymore, I wont try to figure you out... as of now I quit!"

"Sure you are" Kate said grinning

He returned the smile

Zander looked up to see Alexis coming in the door and Kate turned to see who his eyes were suddenly locked upon

he didnt seem to notice her deer in the headlights look

"If youll excuse me for a second I want to say hello to someone"

Kate shook her head easily agreeing and Zander stood turning his back away from her

Alexis walked towards Zander after he caught her eye

"Zander! Hi"

"Alexis!" He said mutually happy to see her

She gave him a warm hug

"Everything ok? I havent seen you in a while..."

"Everythings fine, trying to keep busy"

"Are you sure youre ok... you dont sound to convincing" Alexis said looking at him concerned

"I promise I am... how are you?"

"Good, good..." she didnt sound too convincing herself

"Hows Kristina?"

A smile lit up her face "Shes perfect! She trying to talk up a storm!"

Zander and Alexis continued to talk as Kate had slipped herself down by the counter watching Alexis every move, every facial expression.

The color of her eyes

The shape of her lips

The curves of her body

Her hand gestures

Her smile

The clothes she was wearing... expensive shoes

Kate memorized everything thing about her

"Oh uh you should meet a friend of mine... this is Kate..." Zander turned to see the empty chair waiting for his introduction "Where did she go?" he said looking puzzled

Alexis looked over his shoulder and then back at him, herself puzzled

"I guess she had to go the restroom or something" Zander said

"Well I hate I didnt get to meet her but I see my order on the counter and I cant be late to get Kristina..."

"Oh yeah... well you two have fun and Ill be in touch!"

Alexis squeezed Zanders hand before leaving him

"Shes going to get Kristina, shes getting to be with Kristina..." Kate said to herself eavesdropping on their conversation. "Restroom, restroom tell him you went to the restroom..." She then said reminding herself

"Hey... what happen to you. You just disappeared" he said looking up as she walked back to the table

"Sorry, you were talking and I had to go to the restroom"

"Oh, ok"

Kate began to gather her things

"I need to go"

"So soon?"

"Yeah I have a couple more things I wanted to do..."

Zander was still wondering about her busy agenda for someone who wasnt even familiar with the town but he promised not to question her

"Ok. Ill see you..."

"Uh yeah, maybe coffee... in the morning"

Zander smiled, she was warming up to him

Kate only rolled her eyes at him and she then she disappeared once again
