Another
day
The
rest of your life kind of day
They
both had been up for hours…
She
was out of bed making her way to the bathroom before the sun had risen
He
quickly followed doing his best to help her though it
It
was now just another day in the rest of their life
Ric
pulled his tie through its last loop
Then
turned to her
She
still looked pale
He
soothed her tousled hair and then tugged at her robe
“You
ok?”
“I’m
fine?”
“Promise?”
“Yes,
I promise”
“Maybe
it won’t last much longer”
She
made a face
“You
keep saying that!”
“Well I keep hoping that it won’t!” he said trying to give an encouraging smile
She
hoped that it wouldn’t either
She
wasn’t staring work until next Monday
So
she begged for a little mercy with the morning sickness by then
She
had saltines and decaf tea for breakfast so far, it was the only thing that seemed to agree with baby Lansing
Kristina
came around the corner in full force, with lamby dangling from her hand
“Good
morning sweet pea!”
Alexis’
eyes were wide as hers
Ric
was first to wrap his arms around her, kissing her repeatedly
“Can
you deal with Kristina?”
“I
think the worst is over. We’ll be fine”
“I
just don’t want to leave you with her if you feel awful”
“We’ll
be fine” she assured him once again
Ric
gave her a quick kiss
“You
help mommy if she feels sick ok?” Ric questioned
“I
help” Kristina said proudly
“Will
you call me if you need me?” He asked turning his attention back to Alexis
“Honey…”
Ric
grinned and then she followed him and Kristina from their bedroom in to the living room
“Remember
Maria is starting today”
“What
time is she coming?”
“She
should be here soon”
“Are
you sure she’s the one? We can interview more nannies”
“You
already don’t like her because she’s associated with Jax!”
“I’m
just a little unsure of Jax’s abilities to know what kind of nanny this woman is because it’s on the basis that
he had slept with her”
“Honey
I trust Jax. And she has experience and tons of great references. I’m sure she’ll be perfect”
“I
just wanna be sure”
“I
know, I know”
Ric
was silent as he began kissing his wife’s neck
It’s
what he did when he was admitting defeat
“If
I get done meeting with John early you wanna meet for lunch before your appointment?” he said referring to their visit
with the obstetrician “I figured you might want to eat a little something by then”
“Yeah
just call and I’ll meet you...
“Kristina I’ll see you later. You have fun today!” He told her as he gave her one last kiss
Ric slipped on his suit jacket
“Honey…”
“Yeah?”
When she didn’t continue he stopped in his tracks to look at her
When he did she held out a platinum band in the palm of her hand
“Alexis?”
“I didn’t want some woman trying to steal my man” She said letting out a giggle, amused with
herself “I want them to know… I think it goes something like…
‘I want them to know that there is someone in this world who is insanely in love with you’” she said reminding
him of what he said to her when he gave her, her ring
“Alexis I don’t know what to say…”
“Say you love me and that you always will” She said taking his hand and slipping the ring on his
finger and then sealing it with a kiss
He kissed her back
More and more passionately
“I always will Alexis”
She laughed, happy
“Honey you’re gonna be late!”
“It doesn’t matter!”
Alexis pushed him towards the door
“I’ll see you later… and tell John I said hello”
He kissed her once again
Before he could make it out the door a woman stood at the door
“Mr. and Mrs. Lansing?”
“Ah you must be Maria” Ric said extending his hand “Ric please”
“Ric” she said shaking his
“And I’m Alexis” Alexis said motioning her through the door
“I hate to run off but I’m going to be late. Maria it was nice meeting you. Take care of my little
girl!”
“I will” She said smiling instantly charmed by Ric
“Oh and Maria… make sure she has breakfast” he said as he gave one last kiss to his wife
Maria again smiled as she watched Alexis playfully roll her eyes
“This is a great apartment”
“Thank you. We were lucky to find it… Sorry for the mess. I think Ric and I are both in denial about
unpacking the remaining boxes”
“Oh it will get done. I’ll help if you’ like”
“Oh you don’t have to… just keep my little one occupied and that will be the biggest help!”
“So where is the infamous and as I’m told by Jax the most beautiful little girl in the world…”
Alexis laughed
“Kristina!”
Kristina quickly popped up peering over the back of the couch
“Cartoons have her occupied this morning” Alexis said “Kristina why don’t you come and
meet Maria”
Kristina made her way from the couch but quickly buried herself behind her Mother’s legs
Maria bent down to Kristina
“Kristina you remember me telling you about Maria?”
“Well hello there. It’s nice to finally meet you. You know Jax has told me a lot about you”
“Jax?” Kristina questioned
“Jax is my friend. And he asked me if I would come take care of you while your mommy and daddy are at
work. Is that ok?”
Kristina looked up at her mommy
And Alexis smiled as she came down to her level
“I think you and Maria are going to have so much fun together while mommy’s at work”
Kristina nodded still shy
“Hey why don’t we show Maria around… ok?”
“Ok” Kristina said finally
“Ok shall we…”

“Ready to run yet?” Alexis asked amused
“No you all still seem pretty sane”
Alexis laughed then let out a deep breath
“For the time being I guess we should at least keep up that sane appearance”
“Well at least break it to me gently” Maria joked back
“Ok we’ll try!”
Alexis looked at her watch
“Ok you and Kristina can get acquainted I’m going to get dressed. I have an appointment with the
obstetrician early this afternoon and I’m also meeting Ric for lunch before hand…”
“You go ahead, get dressed. We’ll be fine!”

The morning had flown by and promises of only being gone for a couple of hours were made
Lunch, which had gone much smoother than breakfast, was now gone and past
Ric sat through the visit with Dr. Brinkley attentively
“Well Alexis you seem to be doing excellent. Your blood pressure and every thing seems to be in check.
Now…” Dr. Brinkley said pulling up a chair “Let’s talk for a moment about a couple of things in regards
to stress”
Alexis clinched her eyes shut knowing what discussion was getting ready to happen
Ric ran his hand down her leg resting on her knee
“I see that you had some difficulties with your last pregnancy?”
Alexis shook her head
“And you daughter she is how old now?”
“Three” they both answered
“Ok so you have three year old and you are a lawyer correct?”
“I promise to do my best…” Alexis said interjecting getting Dr. Brinkley’s point
“You have this wonderful husband here. Take full advantage of him! Let him help you! And I understand
you have just moved to the city and you’re probably looking to prove something in your job… I can’t stop
you but I will advise you to watch your stress level and how much you’re working”
“I’m on her already about it” Ric said chiming in
“He is” Alexis agreed
“Good” the doctor said satisfied “The only other thing is morning sickness… you said
it’s been pretty rough”
Alexis made a face
“I know being nauseous is an awful feeling but I want to make sure you’re eating enough. You should
be seeing at least some weight gain by now especially since this is your second baby and you’ve actually lost three
pounds since your initial visit with Dr. Meadows…”
“I’m honestly trying”
“If the morning sickness continues I want you to come back and see me before your next scheduled visit
because I want to see some weight gain in the next couple of weeks”
Alexis and Ric both shook their heads
“Ok so enough reprimanding…” Dr. Brinkley said with a smile “How about we take a look
at this baby”
Ric’s face in anticipation
The cool gel glided across Alexis’ belly
“The baby seems to be developing well for right at six weeks. The brain is developing… here is where
its ears and eyes will be… the mouth…” Dr. Brinkley pointed out “And we’ll listen to the heartbeat
to make sure…”
Dr. Brinkley’s face stiffened as she glided across Alexis’s belly
“Dr. Brinkley?” Ric questioned
“Is something wrong?” Alexis said her voice already shaking
Ric grabbed Alexis’ hand and squeezed it tight…
