Hours had passed

The sun had risen and shown brightly through the kitchen windows

Alexis had an answer for every tiny detail of information the police needed

Finally they left her alone

And she just sat there

Her back pressed against the tall back of the kitchen chair

She never moved, never made a sound

She just let the tears fall down her cheeks on to her hands that sat carelessly in her lap

“Mrs. Jacks are you sure there is no one I can call for you?”

No answer

“Your husband should be here soon. He caught the first flight back to London…”

The officer, a woman suddenly saw Alexis’ body shutter

“Are you ok?”

Of course she wasn’t ok

The officer placed her hands on Alexis’ shoulders

“I’ll be right here if you need me ok”

Alexis knew she would be right there. She was assigned to be right there. She had no choice.

Another two hours passed

The sound of his voice made her hold her breath

“SIR!”

“I’M JASPER JACKS THIS IS MY HOME! Where’s my wife?” He said now calming his voice as the office at the door stood aside to let Jax through

“The kitchen sir”

“Alexis! Alexis!”

She didn’t turn to look at him

“Honey” Jax said as his knees hit the kitchen floor in front of her “We’ll find her ok… we’ll find her… Just be strong for her.”

Alexis’ eyes finally looked up at him

Her brown eyes, Davis’ brown eyes stained red stared in to Jax’s blue eyes

She made note his eyes where also stained red

“Mr. and Mrs. Jacks?” An unfamiliar man said standing in the doorway “I’m detective John Grant.” He walked towards them. “I’m sorry but I need to ask you more questions. The more information we have…”

“Yes of course” Jax said as he rose from the floor

Detective Grant sat at the table across from Alexis and now Jax sitting beside her

“The obvious question but a very important one… Mrs. Jacks…”

“Alexis… please” She interrupted

Grant shook his head “Alexis you mentioned earlier to one of the officers that a man by the name of Sonny Corinthos may be a possible suspect in the kidnapping of your daughter. Is he connected to you and your family? How do you know him?”

Alexis looked at the Detective sharply and never made one glance to Jax

“He’s her father”

The picture perfect image of their happy family blemished

“Her father?” Grant questioned

Alexis opened her mouth but the lump in her throat began to choke her

“Yes” Jax said chiming in “He s her biological father”

Alexis squeezed her eyes shut

Detective Grant could tell how much this hurt her

“Would he harm her?”

“Yes!” Jax answered quickly

“No” Alexis corrected “He wouldn’t purposefully cause a scratch on her”

The detective was confused by their conflicting answer

“Is Davis estranged from him? Does she know him?”

“No”

“And would he be looking for her?”

“I’m not sure” Alexis said barley above a whisper

“I think I need you to explain further Alexis”

Davis knows her biological father is in the States. I left the city her father and I both lived in to continue to keep the secret that she was his daughter”

“May I ask why?”

“He lives a very dangerous lifestyle. I wanted her to be safe. So Jax and I took her as far away from him as we could”

“Do you know where he is now?”

“We think still in Port Charles, New York” Jax said

“We need to contact the Police there”

“I already have someone on him” Jax continued seriously “If you go and question him and he hasn’t figured out Davis is his daughter. He’ll know for sure then. I want him to be tracked down without him knowing”

“If he has your daughter we shouldn’t waste any time trying to…”

“You can’t just confront him!” Alexis said becoming more upset

Jax squeezed her hand in his and tried to calm her

“I understand your concerns in wanting to keep this secret from Mr. Corinthos but there’s still a chance that he may have not taken her. We need to be sure of that but also be open to any other suspects. We just need to make sure we’re not wasting any time walking on eggshells around this man”

“Please understand I have detectives on Mr. Corinthos. We want you to your job more than anyone but this is for Davis’ safety…” Jax said almost pleadingly

“If he just now learns that Davis is his daughter he will find her… and he will disappear with her” Alexis added to Jax’s plea

“Then we’ll keep an unsuspicious distance from him as you wish, for now. And in the mean time we’ll be looking for her day and night” Grant said rising from his chair

“Thank you detective Grant”

“John”

“Thank you John” Alexis said bowing her head slightly to him in place of a smile she refused to let form on her face

Long after the detective left Jax paced the floor as Alexis still sat at the kitchen table

Sighs and the releasing of shallow breaths spoke louder than words

Jax had made his way to the window, his eyes squinting trying to adjust from the direct sunlight versus the faded sunlight throughout the dark kitchen

“I shouldn’t have let her go”

Jax raced back to the table where she sat

“No! You were doing what was best for her! Don’t say that!”

“All she wanted to do was go to New York. She didn’t really understand why I wouldn’t let her!”

“Alexis don’t do this to yourself! Please don’t! This isn’t your fault!”

“If I would have let her go, I would have been with her; you would have been with her. She would be safe and happy and… God! Why didn’t I let her go!!”

She was hysterical and Jax pressed her deep in his arms and tried to calm her

She pushed him away and left him behind

“Alexis!”

The officers standing in the hallway and at the entrance of the door stood in attention to the commotion

“Alexis!”

He followed her in to the living room

“Alexis don’t do this!”

“Jax she’s everywhere! Look her shoes…”Alexis swiped up one of her tennis shoes on the floor and held it out to him. He took it from her. “The book she’s reading, her sweater…” Alexis didn’t offer Jax the sweater. She held it close to her. Taking in Davis’ soft scent from the collar “She’s everywhere”

Alexis’ eyes reached the pictures on the floor. Some pressed neatly in books, some pictures in boxes, some still in stacks

Neat organized stacks

Alexis fell to the floor her hands shuffling through the pictures

“She’s everywhere!” She screamed at the top of her lungs before she flung the pictures across the floor “This is like a living HELL!!”

“I know! I know it is!” Jax said as he knelt down beside her almost tackling her pressing her in between his body and the floor

“Mr. Jacks is she ok?” the officer questioned from the doorway

“Please leave me alone with my wife!” He shouted, his voice echoing throughout the house

The officer stepped back away from the door understanding

She cried, not her soft whimpers but sobbing. She released every heartbreaking noise she had held in since the evening before

Tears flowed down his cheeks in response

His arms wrapped around her tightly refusing to let her out of the hold he had on her

A picture of their daughter gripped between her fingers

She fell asleep in his arms

Her body had given up on her

She had been awake since the morning before

He wouldn’t dare move to wake her

It would be the only peace she had until her daughter returned
